Wedding planning help – How to deal with jealous friends and family

Planning your wedding is stressful enough but what happens when family or friends become jealous? It’s actually quite common for family members and close friends to get a little envious over your upcoming nuptials. In fact, many people may feel jealous for various reasons. As the bride, it’s easy to get irritated but instead, think about why they’re acting the way they are and find a better (less stressful) way to deal with it. If friends are jealous it may be because you are in a happy relationship and they aren’t. Relatives may feel as though they are getting older and won’t find the happiness that you have found. Here are some ways to deal with jealous friends and family members.

Ignore it – this is the fastest way to deal with the problem, but it can be difficult. It is especially hard when friends try even harder to get you to notice them by making harsh comments. Instead of playing into their comments, try to ignore them and the problem will go away.

Talk about it – If a good friend is being extremely jealous, talk to her about her feelings. Chances are she may not realize that her jealousy is showing. Let her know that your happiness does not hamper her from finding joy in her life.

Spend time with friends and family – One of the reasons that people may be jealous is that you’ve stopped spending time with them and instead are focusing all your attention on your fiancé. Make a point to spend some quality time with your friends or family – without your beloved.

Laugh it off – Harsh comments may feel more thoughtless right now simply because you’re more sensitive. After all, you’re going through a very stressful time in your life. Remember not to take these remarks too seriously and simply laugh them off.

Take responsibility – Keep in mind that you may inadvertently have said or done something to spark some jealousy. Some friends or family members may be feeling rather unloved right now so cut them some slack and take partial responsibility for the jealousy and move on.

Be understanding – You’re about to embark on the most important journey of your life and your friends and family may feel as though you’re leaving them behind. Be mindful of their delicate feelings and accept their behaviour, even if it may feel negative.
