Jewellery is a big part of your bridal wardrobe, but does it have to break the bank?
Let’s admit it; although the groom has a large role in a wedding, it’s really the bride who steals all the attention. It’s her day to feel beautiful and confident.
Jewellery can build confidence, which will allow a bride to beam with radiance. It’s an important aspect to a bride’s appearance, but it can also cost a pretty penny.
“It’s something that will put a smile on her face and will enhance the dress,” says Lynn Harlow, owner of Promises and Lace Bridal and Dress Boutique in Burlington, Ont.
Dress it down
It depends what jewellery a bride chooses to wear, but many times jewellery can distract an onlooker’s attention away from the bride’s face. A bride should be the focus of attention, not the sparkly necklace she’s wearing.
An easy way to save is to avoid these over-the-top pieces. The bigger the crystals get, the more they’re going to cost. Sometimes simplicity is a good thing. Not only will you save money, but your face will shine brighter than your necklace.
“You don’t need one of everything,” says Harlow. “You want to enhance the dress. Look at it and figure out what is the key spot to focus on.”
Harlow also suggests downsizing the piece of interest by eliminating some beading or crystals.
Borrow
Your mother, future mother-in-law, grandmother or sister may have an heirloom you can borrow. Not only will this eliminate the cost completely, but it will also add some significance.
Rent
Many bridal stores offer rental jewellery. Much like a wedding gown, a bride’s jewellery will probably only be worn once. Why waste too much money on it when you can wear it and return it back to the store for a minimal cost?
Fake it
Artificial jewellery is available anywhere you go. It may not cost the same as a Swarovski crystal necklace, but the majority of the time, no one will even be able to see the difference. Think of it as your little secret!
