Ideas for choosing “something blue” for your wedding

Finding your “something blue” can be a bit tricky. Here are some creative and classic suggestions.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, is a famous traditional saying that brides still use as a guide to bring good luck at their weddings. You must have something old, new, borrowed and blue when you walk down the aisle. Getting something old, new, and borrowed are the easiest to find. However, you must find a “something blue”. That can be a bit tricky, since you certainly don’t want anything of a blue colour to show on your wedding day.

One good option that many brides opt for is a blue garter. Since your garter won’t  be seen you can easily wear a garter with some blue trim, thus fulfilling the need for something blue. Another option that many brides like is a piece of blue jewellery. You can wear a necklace with some small blue stones as trim. The blue will be barely noticeable yet it will be there just the same.

If you’re at a complete loss of what to use for “something blue” do what some brides do – pin a small piece of blue fabric into your wedding gown. You can pin it into the hem of the dress in a place where it won’t show at all. If you prefer, you can actually sew the small piece of fabric in. A similar option is to sew in a small blue button into the hem of your dress.

Many brides like the idea of wearing the blue item in their shoe. You can add a tiny snippet of blue fabric to your shoe. Make sure that it’s small enough so that you won’t be bothered by it when you walk. If you’re sentimental, consider utilizing an antique blue handkerchief that belonged to your grandmother. If you like you can add something blue to your floral bouquet. Some tiny blue flowers are nice or you can choose a small blue ribbon in addition to any other option you choose.

Keep in mind that the “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” doesn’t need to be all in one item. Some brides spend considerable time trying to find something to fit all of these categories at the same time and that simply isn’t necessary. You can also think outside the box when looking for something blue. Think about wearing blue toenail polish or having blue lace on your wedding undergarments.
