Planning your wedding can seem like an overwhelming task – especially if you’re new to weddings.

How to start planning your wedding

Congratulations on your engagement! You’re about to enter one of the most exciting times of your life. The first thing you will need to do is start the planning process. Planning your wedding can seem like an overwhelming task – especially if you’re new to weddings. How do you get started? Here are some tips to get you going on the right track.

Make a list – Start making a list of the things you want to have as part of your wedding. List your ideal location, perfect dress, best honeymoon, etc. This is the start of thinking about your wedding plans.

Get Help – Online websites, forums, and magazines are full of ideas and offer a great place to start the planning process. Make notes of the things you like the best in all of the areas of your wedding arrangements.

Get Organized – From the first time you slip on your engagement ring till the day you say “I do”, you’ll need to stay organized. Planning a wedding takes a lot of work so start by choosing a system to use for your planning.

Vision Board – Create a vision board of all the best ideas you can find for your upcoming wedding. Cut out the images and make a collage. Then, use the board to find ideas and remind yourself of the things you love.

First Things First – Don’t put the cart before the horse. Pieces will fit together more easily if you plan your wedding in a methodical and logical fashion.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff – yet. You’ll have plenty of time to nail down the minute details of your wedding day. For now, think about the main items that need to be planned including the date, location, dress, etc.

Be Happy – Don’t let the upcoming plans overwhelm you. This is a fantastic time in your life so avoid stress. Instead, keep calm and do planning at your own pace and in your own time.

Listen to Yourself – Others may mean well, but they can have a way of being overbearing. Gently let
others know that you’ll be planning your wedding soon and you’ll engage them for help when you’re ready.
