Tips for choosing your wedding lip colour

Wedding lip colour is one of the most important choices you’ll make because your lips are going to stand out in all the photos.

Every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day and that includes choosing the best makeup. When choosing a wedding lip colour there are several things to keep in mind.

Wedding makeup should be balanced. This means you don’t want your lips to be more prevalent than your other facial features. Choose a colour that coordinates with your other makeup choices and doesn’t overpower your face. Also, you don’t want your lips to blend in too much with your face. Ideally, you want your lips to show up nicely.

The season of the year will help determine your lip colour. A fall or winter wedding is able to handle stronger tones. Choose a darker or deeper hue than usual for a cold weather wedding. Summer and spring weddings call for more subtle makeup and thus for lighter shades of lipstick.

When you choose a lipstick colour think about the latest fashion trends. Makeup, like other fashion, has trends. You don’t want to go too extreme, however, because that will make for poor photos. Instead, think about a neutral colour in the peach or pink hues. Avoid red lipstick as this can not only make your teeth look yellow, but also tends to smear and can easily get onto your face or dress.

Pink is a good colour for those who have pink undertones to their skin tone. Peach is another neutral option that looks good on olive complexions. Whichever you choose be sure to coordinate your blush in the same tones. Try various choices beforehand to find the option that looks best on you.

Once you have the lipstick hue chosen you can begin looking for the right type of lipstick. Matte lipstick doesn’t have a shine and is a good choice for photos. Glossy lipstick may need to be reapplied too often and can reflect light in pictures. Choose a long-lasting lipstick so that you don’t need to reapply it too often. Choose a friend or bridesmaid to assist with reapplication of makeup throughout the reception.
