Tips for choosing bridal jewellery

Think of jewellery as a way to accent and highlight your bridal look.

The decision of which jewellery to wear is often a difficult one for a bride. You want to showcase your wedding gown yet you don’t want to take away from the beauty of the dress at all. It’s also essential to make sure that your face and hair are what people are looking at more than the jewellery. Think of jewellery as a way to accent and highlight your bridal look.

If you have the proper neckline for a necklace, by all means wear one. Be sure that the necklace is not large or overpowering. It should be delicate and feminine. If the neckline is a low-cut style or a v-neck  a necklace will usually look good with it. The necklace shouldn’t hang too low and should not fall into the cleavage. It should be made of the same colour metal as your engagement and wedding rings. For example if you have a silver-toned ring set any jewellery you choose should also be silver-toned.

Earrings are almost always a necessity when wearing a wedding dress. The size, shape, and design of the earrings should be small enough that they don’t overshadow your gown. You’ll want to consider your hairstyle when choosing earrings – they should look good with both the flow of your dress as well as the look of your hair. In general, you can’t go wrong with small stud style earrings. These can be small white pearls or diamonds. Remember that cubic zirconia earrings will look just as good as diamonds and people won’t be able to tell the difference.

Dangle earrings are often too large for a wedding. However, if you have an upswept hairdo you can choose earrings that dangle down – as long as they aren’t too long. Any dangle earrings should be no longer than chin level. When choosing jewellery the most important thing to do is to try on the necklace and earrings with the dress. This will help you decide whether you need one, both, or neither of the items. Get some ideas by looking at similar dresses in magazines or online to see what jewellery is shown with them. When in doubt, it’s best to choose smaller or fewer pieces rather than larger ones.
