Winter skincare tips

Itchy, flaky skin not only feels skin care but also won’t look good on your wedding day.

A dry winter can take its toll on your skin. Itchy, flaky skin not only feels bad, but also won’t look good on your wedding day. The best way to resolve dry skin is to take care of it before your wedding. Here are some tips for winter skin care for those preparing for the wedding.

Moisturize with lotion daily. Don’t skip a day of moisturizing. Use a high quality moisturizer that can be used on all parts of the body. To avoid having any reactions consider using hypoallergenic lotions that don’t contain artificial colours or scents. Don’t start using any new lotion right before your wedding day.

Use moisturizing body wash. Everyone uses body wash or soap. Try using body wash that has additional moisturizing properties built in. There are many different brands to choose from so pick a scent that you like.
Don’t shower too often. Showers can actually be drying to the skin because the water washes away protective oils that are released by the skin. It’s okay to shower every other day in the winter – especially if you haven’t been active.

Moisturize after showering. After a shower your skin needs more moisture. Apply moisturizer while the skin is still damp. Allow your skin to absorb the moisturizer before getting dressed.

Pay special attention to your face. Your face is exposed to all the harsh elements of winter. Keep it protected by using moisturizer designed specifically for the face. Make sure that the lotion contains sunscreen protection since you can experience negative effects from the sun even in the winter months.

Don’t forget the scalp. Your scalp can become extra dry in winter and this can cause dandruff. To protect your scalp use special lotions when shampooing that will penetrate the skin on your scalp to prevent dryness.

Use an indoor humidifier. Indoor air can become quite dry in winter due to using the heat. Add more moisture into the room by using humidifiers in each room or install a whole house humidifier that attaches to your furnace.

Protect the skin from itching. If your skin feels itchy and dry it’s time to apply more moisturizer. If you have areas that are extremely itchy it’s best to be treated by a dermatologist.
