Tips for the perfect summer wedding.

Summer wedding do’s and don’ts

Summer is here and it’s a popular time for weddings. If your wedding is in the summer you’ll want to think about these important do’s and don’ts to make your special day the best it can be.

Do provide fans or shade umbrellas for guests. The heat can make guests uncomfortable and sometimes older guests can even get sick.

Don’t forget to plan for unexpected rain. In the event of a rainstorm during your outdoor wedding be prepared by having tents set up. You can also pass out pretty rain umbrellas to keep guests dry.

Do have a beauty kit ready with extra deodorant, tissues, and makeup in case the heat (and stress) causes you to get nervous.

Don’t wear an extravagant hairstyle. The humidity and heat can make your style droop quickly and you don’t want to spend the day worried about you do. Choose a simple bun or ponytail for an elegant look.

Do wear a sleeveless gown. Sleeveless dresses look good on almost any figure and will keep you cool even during the hottest of afternoons.

Don’t make the ceremony too long. Many churches aren’t air-conditioned (or have poor air circulation) and you don’t want guests to be uncomfortable. Keep the nuptials short and sweet in the heat.

Do allow your groom to remove his jacket when it’s hot. After the ceremony, let him cool off but of course, he’ll have to put his jacket back on for photos.

Don’t forget about bugs. If your reception is outdoors provided with some tiki lights and citronella candles to keep mosquitoes and other bugs away from guests.

Do talk to the venue manager about controlling the temperature and windows during the reception. Find out how to operate the air conditioning if needed.

Don’t let the cake get too warm. Heat melts cakes and can cause them to droop or even slide off their stacks. If you prefer, serve cupcakes or opt for a sweets table and have a small single tier cake for cutting.

Do think about wearing short gowns for the bride and bridesmaids. The shorter length will be much cooler yet still fashionable and pretty.

Don’t allow guests to wander off the designated property. Nice summer nights can make guests want to take a stroll but be sure it’s only in designated, well-lit areas.
