Your engagement photo is the first announcement of you and your fiancé as a couple.

Engagement photos do’s and don’ts

Tips for making sure your engagement photos turn out perfect.

Your engagement photo is the first announcement of you and your fiancé as a couple. You’ll be announcing your upcoming marriage to the world. In order to make sure that the photo is the best it can be, there are a few important do’s and don’ts to think about.

Do – Coordinate your clothing. You will need to pay attention to the colours. To make it look good, choose colours that work well. Avoid white as this is a stark colour that doesn’t look good on most people.

Don’t –  Look too serious. It’s your engagement photo so you really want to be sure that you convey a look of love and happiness. You can try some interesting shots like holding hands or looking into each other’s eyes. Your photographer can suggest some good poses.

Do – Take plenty of photos so you’ll have plenty to pick from. You’ll want to have a few different poses to choose between so be sure to try several different pose options. Standing, sitting, looking in different directions, etc. are all open to you. Keep in mind that you can pick the one you like the best once the photos are completed.

Don’t – Take your own photos. Unless you (or a friend) are an expert photographer it’s best to leave the picture-taking to a professional. The money spent will be well worth it when you end up with high-quality photos.

Do – Look at some other engagement photos to get an idea of what you like. Clip out the photos from magazines or from the newspaper and show them to your photographer. This will give your photographer a window into your thoughts so they can create photos you’ll love.

Don’t – Wear your wedding attire. This engagement photo is designed as an announcement of your upcoming nuptials and isn’t a wedding photo. Choose nice clothing but remember that the photo is a less formal picture.

Do – Have the engagement photos taken well in advance of when you need them. It may take several or more weeks to get the proofs back and choose your photos. Then it could take another couple of weeks to get the final picture. Allow plenty of time for the process so you’ll have the best possible results.
