Ceremony programs 101

Programs are usually a necessity at your wedding ceremony and are especially helpful for those attending to follow what’s going on. There are many options when it comes to choosing ceremony programs. You can simply provide a basic printed sheet with the information or you can get more creative. Keep in mind that ceremony programs don’t need to cost a lot to be fun and interesting. There are a few things to make sure you include in the programs including:

  • Bride and Groom names
  • Names of Attendants
  • Name of Officiator
  • Parts of the Ceremony
  • List of Hymns and Readings
  • Vows

Wedding programs can be as simple or elaborate as you like. Almost anything goes so you can get imaginative with your programs. Keep in mind that you can print the programs yourself or you can have them professionally printed.  Print more than you need. People like to look at the program while they are watching your ceremony but they may also like to take a fresh copy with them. Leave a stack of fresh programs near the exit so attendees may take one with them as they exit.

You can have fun making the programs by using stamps, ribbons, and other embellishments that will make them look wonderful. You can use any type of font you like or you may opt to have them done using calligraphy (if you or someone you know does calligraphy this is an enjoyable project). The covers can be plain or you may choose to emboss them. The covers can also be made of material in a colour similar to your bridesmaid’s dresses.

Passing out the programs can be done in any manner you choose. Hang the programs on the chair, place on the seat, or hand them out as people are seated. Alternatively, you can set up a small table at the rear of the church where people can take a program as they enter. If the weather is going to be hot, consider printing the program directly onto a paper fan giving it a dual function for guests. If you have a wedding theme, use it on the programs. Most of all make unique programs that guests will enjoy.
